Virgil van Dijk takes to Twitter to celebrate Liverpool’s win over Everton
Liverpool star Virgil van Dijk has this evening taken to social media, to praise the club’s performance in their Merseyside derby victory.
Jurgen Klopp’s men welcomed Everton to Anfield a short time ago, for their FA Cup opener.
The matchup marked the 2nd time in 3 years that the two clubs had been pitted against one another at this stage of the competition.
Last time out, it was Liverpool who emerged victorious from the tie.
And, when all was said and done on Merseyside this evening, the Reds once again got the better of their city rivals.
Despite having fielded a second-choice XI, featuring the likes of Pedro Chirivella, Neco Williams and January signing Takumi Minamino, Liverpool bagged the only goal of the clash 20 minutes from time.
After playing a neat one-two with Divock Origi on the edge of the Everton box, 18-year-old Curtis Jones bent an absolutely sumptuous dipping effort beyond the reach of the flailing Jordan Pickford, to send the European champions into the 4th-round of the FA Cup.

As outlined above, Jurgen Klopp opted to hand his side’s star performers a break this evening, on the back of their hectic festive commitments.
Sadio Mane and Jordan Henderson remained on the bench throughout the 90 minutes at Anfield, with the likes of Alisson, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Mo Salah having been omitted from Liverpool’s squad altogether.
Another one of the Reds’ key performers to have been given the day off today, meanwhile, has since taken to social media, to reveal his excitement at the club’s victory.
The player in question is Virgil van Dijk, with the Dutch stopper’s approving Tweet showcased below:
