Man City hoping to tie Eric Garcia down to new contract in coming weeks – Goal
Eric Garcia joined Manchester Citys youth system from Spanish giants FC Barcelona in 2017.
The now 18-year-old has made 16 appearances for Citys under-23 side and 25 for their under-18 team.
And after impressing at a lower level, Garcia is now being handed a smattering of opportunities in Citys senior side.
Despite his age, Garcia has already notched up 12 appearances for the Sky Blues main team.
Five of those outings have come in the Premier League this season.
The young Spaniard would start in Citys last two league outings vs Sheffield United and Everton.
The former Barca man put in some stellar performances with City coming out on top on both occasions.
Garcia is currently contracted to the Manchester powerhouse until 2022.
But it seems City are looking to extend the promising defenders deal.
According to Goal, Man City are hoping to tie Garcia down to a new contract in the coming weeks.
Citys director of football Txiki Begiristain is set to sit down with Garcias representatives, which include Carles Puyol and Ivan de la Pena, as per Goal.
Pep Guardiola has also been speaking about Garcia recently.
Speaking ahead of Man Citys FA Cup 3rd round tie with Port Vale, Guardiola stated that Garcia is always a seven or eight:
In the squad there are people who love to understand the game and talk tactics and others who dont. That doesnt mean its good or bad.
But Eric is a guy who likes to know why. Why? Why the reason why? When he makes a mistake he understands quickly.
He will continue to make mistakes, of course. But when you have a guy who knows how to be stable – its important to be stable if you are a central defender, hes always a seven or eight, not make an incredible performance but not make a lot of mistakes, and Eric in this situation as a young player that is always stable.
