Arsenals Bernd Leno provides insight into Mikel Artetas post-Everton team talk

Arsenals Bernd Leno provides insight into Mikel Artetas post-Everton team talk

101 great goals - 1 month ago

Arsenal goalkeeper Bernd Leno has opened up on the team talk given by newly-appointed Gunners boss Mikel Arteta, on the back of the club’s stalemate with Everton at the weekend.

Arsenal held

The Gunners travelled to Goodison Park on Saturday, for their latest Premier League outing.

Arsenal headed into proceedings in search of a bounce-back performance, on the back of a comprehensive 3-0 defeat at home to Manchester City in their previous outing.

When all was said and done on Merseyside, though, the visitors couldn’t find a way to break down a stubborn Everton backline.

A disappointing 90 minutes eventually saw both sides forced to settle for a point, in a drab 0-0 stalemate.

Highlights: Everton 0-0 Arsenal

‘Play as a team’

Arsenal’s draw with Everton came in Freddie Ljungberg’s 6th outing in charge of his former side.

Across these fixtures, the Swede managed just a solitary victory, 2 weeks ago versus West Ham.

Ljungberg’s replacement, though, in the form of Mikel Arteta, was also present at Goodison Park, to take in his side’s latest display.

And, though the Spaniard was unable to call the shots on Saturday afternoon, Arteta nevertheless provided his thoughts on Arsenal’s showing following the full-time whistle.

As confirmed by Gunners shot-stopper Bernd Leno, the new Arsenal boss made his way into the away dressing room in the aftermath of the clash, to place emphasis on ‘playing as a team’:

‘He didnt speak too much about quality or about tactics. He just said he wants to see players who run, who support their team-mates, who defend the goal, play as a team.’

Leno continued:

‘I think this was our main problem [before]. We played this season some good games, like this. But many games we were not good enough on this point.’
