Mourinho claims he wouldn’t swap Lo Celso for Bruno Fernandes or any other player
One of Tottenhams marquee summer signings saw Giovani Lo Celso swap Spain for north London.
The Argentine, who had previously impressed on the books of Real Betis, joined the Lilywhites on loan.
Spurs then took up the option to secure the versatile midfielders services on a permanent basis this past January.
Since arriving at Tottenham Lo Celso, baring some injury woes, has been fairly impressive and is often their best midfield asset throughout 90 minutes.
However, as well as Lo Celso, Tottenham were apparently looking at another high-quality midfielder this past summer.
The man in question is said to be Bruno Fernandes, with the now Manchester United star claiming he had agreed a deal with Spurs before Sporting blocked the move.
Fernandes has, of course, gone on to become one of the Premier Leagues standout midfielders in the last few months.
But it seems that even if given the choice, Jose Mourinho wouldnt swap Lo Celso for the Portuguese star.
When asked by Sky Sports News whether he regrets Spurs missing out on Fernandes last summer, Mourinho stated:
“I don’t know anything about that, but if that is true, and if Giovani Lo Celso was the player that came to Spurs [instead of Bruno Fernandes], then I would say I wouldn’t change Giovani Lo Celso for any player.
“[I wouldn’t swap Lo Celso] for any player. It’s not just for Bruno, but for any player.”
