Coming Home to Greece with Diane Kochilas

For an expat like me, homecomings and farewells are part of the bargain of loving two countries: Greece and the United States. New York, Athens, and the Blue Zone Greek island of Ikaria triangulate my existence, and until this past March with COVID-19, I moved fluidly between them. My back-and-forth sojourns have been so frequent … Continued The post Coming Home to Greece with Diane Kochilas appeared first on We Said Go Travel.

Best Vietnamese Takeaway Food Guide Simplified For You When You are in Toowoomba

Best Vietnamese Takeaway Food Guide Simplified For You When You are in Toowoomba

pommie travels - 2 weeks ago

Vietnamese food is popularly known to be both healthy as well as mouth-watering in nature. The tasteful combination of rice, noodles, pork, beef with freshly served herbs makes it one of its own kind. This list will take you through some of the most popular food items in the Vietnamese list. These can be savored right at the restaurants, or they are also good takeaway food in Toowoomba according to your convenience.

Their contact detail:

Original Saigon Restaurant

286 Ruthven St,

Toowoomba City QLD 4350

Cao Lau

Cao Lau is a dish that gives you an essence of the various cultures that once visited the trading port at its height. Therefore, it is not a typical Vietnamese meal but will have a touch of Japanese and Chinese food.

It consists of thick rice noodles which will remind you of Japan, pieces of barbequed pork, with green and crunchy croutons. The pork is thinly sliced and cooked in a traditional Chinese method, popularly known as Char Sui.

Pho

There could be no list of Vietnamese cuisine that could go without a mention of Pho. It is practically impossible to pass through a street without having to witness a bunch of people savoring over dishes at a makeshift Pho stand.

This simple dish consists of all the ingredients that are used predominantly in a typical local meal. It has fresh rice noodles, salty broth, chicken or beef, and a sprinkling of herbs. It is one of the cheapest meals that you’ll find with availability at all times.

Bun Cha

While Pho is evidently one of the most popular dishes of all time, Bun cha finds itself a special mention. It is one of the widely consumed lunchtime favorites among Vietnamese food lovers in Toowoomba. After 11.00 am, the streets are filled with smoke clouds as you will find the pork being grilled over a charcoal fire at the restaurants.

Its two primary ingredients are grilled pork and noodles. It is served over a plate of white rice noodles with grilled pork on the top. Herbs, which is a specialty of Vietnamese food, and a side dip sauce, are served along with the meal.

Banh mi

Vietnamese have taken the French baguette to a whole new level. It is made of a combination of rice flours and wheat. You’ll be surprised to know that it’s a dish that is served differently depending on what corner of the country you’re in.

If you’re in the south, you’ll find a more colorful form of banh mi sandwich for yourself. It can consist of a varied combination of cheese, hand-picked veggies, fried egg, sausage, cold cuts, chili sauce, and fresh cilantro.

Nom Hoa Chuoi

If you’re a vegetarian and probably are finding yourself lost in this long list of food items, this one will undoubtedly make you happy. This dish is one of the best meat-free alternatives in the country.

The name also knows it by banana blossom salad. Earlier it used to be a rustic dish; however, today, it finds its place in some of the unique Vietnamese cuisines. The mixture is served in a banana blossom bowl, with fried shallots and roasted peanuts on the top.

Banh Xeo

This is another fantastic dish that you’ll be delighted to get a taste of. It is usually described as a mix of an omelet and a crepe. The sight of a Banh Xeo bulging with shrimp, pork, and bean sprouts is the best that you’ll have. Also, one can never forget the magic of the fresh herbs, which are a typical ingredient in Vietnamese meals.

To have a taste of it like a local, separate it into manageable pieces, roll it nicely in a lettuce leaf or rice paper, and dip it nicely in the sauce given to you.

Canh bun

Though it is slightly lesser known than its counterparts, it is one of the most delicious items that you will have through your journey. This dish originated in Northern Vietnam and has slowly reached all parts of the world, including Toowoomba.

This dish is yet another recommended lunchtime meal on this list. It is a crab and morning glory noodle soup with quite similar ingredients to that of the bun Rieu crab soup. However, slight variations, like the type of noodle used, make it all the way different and hearty.
