Hermitage, Pennsylvania

Hermitage, Pennsylvania

pommie travels - 1 week ago

Hermitage, formerly known as the Township of Hickory, is a city in Mercer County in the state of Pennsylvania. Occupying a total area of 29.6 square miles, it is the third largest city in the state. The city was first established in 1832 as the Township of Hickory, following the incorporation of the cities of Farrell and Sharon. The name was changed to Hermitage in December 1975, as ordered by the countys Court of Common Pleas. The city is approximately three miles from Sharon, Sharpsville and Farrell. Hermitage and the nearby cities are home to several golf courses, fine restaurants and accommodations and exciting shopping venues that cater to its residents and visitors.

Things to Do

Hermitage and the whole Mercer County offer plenty of exciting activities for the young and young-at-heart. With its varied terrains and abundance of parks, you can take your pick from boating, fishing, hiking, biking and wildlife watching. The Buhl Farm Park located in nearby Sharon provides perfect venues for picnics, swimming, and kite flying. The park is also home to the only free golf course in the United States. The city also has a number of other outstanding golf courses that aficionados of all skill levels can play on. You can also spend a day of luxury and pampering at the world-class Buhl Mansion Guesthouse & Spa where you can relax and recharge your body and soul.

Accommodation Tips

Visitors to Hermitage and the nearby towns are offered a wide selection of lodging options to fit every style and budget. If youre traveling on a tight budget or just looking to save a few bucks on accommodations, stay at the Royal Motel. It is located on Hermitage Road and is close to the Shenango Valley Mall and some restaurants. On the other hand, the Buhl Mansion Guesthouse & Spa in Sharon offers luxurious accommodations perfect for romantic getaways. The property features a fantastic spa that offers ultimate relaxation for those who seek a respite from the sometimes-maddening city life. Book your Hermitage Hotels with Reservations.com.

Shopping

The city and the surrounding area provide some of the best shopping venues in the state. In fact, Mercer County claims to offer almost 70% off purchases in many of its specialty stores and shopping centers. The Daffin Candies in Sharon is home to the delightful Chocolate Kingdom sculptures. The candy shop also sells homemade chocolates, gifts and cards for all occasions. Philadelphia Candies, another candy shop, is known for their velvety-smooth chocolate. Buy some sweet delights from these two stores for those people you miss back home. And then theres the worlds largest shoe store, Reyers, where you can find just about any kind of shoe in all sizes. For a one-stop shopping site, head to the Shenango Valley Mall, an enclosed shopping center with over 40 retail shops. Those who drop by town during Christmas and Easter seasons should head to Kraynaks, a popular holiday shopping destination.

Best Dining Spots

There are plenty of dining venues in Hermitage that offer everything from American favorites to international cuisine. Bella Cena is a popular restaurant offering Italian food in a great atmosphere. Dont forget to sample some of their house specialties like baked lasagna, and chicken or veal marsala. Chiccarinos is another good place for Italian cuisine. The Hickory Bar & Grille, meanwhile, is a favorite among locals and visitors for its delicious American dishes. If Hickory is full, Jai Alai is a great alternative for American comfort food. You can also head to Bob Evans for breakfast, and Hot Head Burritos for authentic Mexican fare.
