Essential Experiences for Anyone Visiting Niagara Falls

Essential Experiences for Anyone Visiting Niagara Falls

pommie travels - 3 years ago

Theres little wonder as to why Niagara Falls attracts millions of visitors each year. As one of the foremost wonders of the natural world, the Niagara Falls are truly a sight to behold, and anyone with an appreciation for natures majesty should see them at least once. However, the areas appeal isnt limited to the falls themselves. Whether youre traveling solo, embarking on a romantic getaway or looking for a first-rate family destination, Niagara Falls has you covered on all fronts. Travelers who will soon be making the trek to Niagara cant go home without experiencing the following attractions.

Boat Tours

If youre in Niagara, its only natural that youd want to get a good look at the falls – and a boat tour can help you do just that. Niagara Falls is home to a convenient assortment of boat tours, many of which provide visitors with an up-close view of the falls. When taking a boat tour, you are practically guaranteed to get wet, so take care to wear a poncho and protect any electronics you happen to be carrying. (Certain boat tours even provide guests with complementary ponchos.) Anyone eager to view the falls from the closest possible (and safest possible) distance should explore Niagara Falls tour options.

Walking Tours

Travelers who dont mind a little physical exertion are likely to enjoy taking a walking tour of the falls. As is the case with boat tours, walking tours typically involve getting wet, so make a point of dressing accordingly. Furthermore, in light of the harsh winters the area receives, embarking on certain walking tours may not be feasible during the cold weather months. While some walking tours are guided, others allow visitors to proceed at their own pace, so the type of tour best-suited to you will largely depend on your preferred level of structure.

Hiking the Niagara Glen

Hiking enthusiasts wont want to miss out on a chance to visit the Niagara Glen. This picturesque pocket of Carolinian forest is rife with breathtaking scenery, wild plant-life and prehistoric geological formations. In addition to the guided hiking tours found at the Glen, the area also features ample bouldering opportunities for experienced rock climbers. Hikers in need of a break should pay a visit to the Niagara Glen Nature Centre, where they can enjoy a delectable assortment of refreshments and stock up on first-rate souvenirs.

Visiting the Niagara Parks Botanical Gardens

Travelers who want to take in a stunning array of plant-life neednt look any further than the Niagara Parks Botanical Gardens. Spanning 99 acres, the gardens are home to a seemingly endless assortment of flowers, vegetation and other meticulously-maintained plant-life. If youre visiting with a special someone, make sure to check out the Botanical Gardens world-renowned rose garden, which houses over 2,400 eye-catching roses. The gardens also house the Niagara Parks Butterfly Conservatory, which is home to 45 species of butterfly and more than 2,000 individual butterflies. Visiting couples looking to set a romantic mood are sure to enjoy the intimate horse-drawn carriage tours the Botanical Gardens offer throughout the warmer months.

Touring Niagaras Wine Country

Visitors who can never pass up a good glass of wine will feel immensely satisfied when touring Niagara Falls wine country. This region of Niagara is home to an impressive 37 wineries and 21 fine dining establishments. While not quite as famous as Napa Valley, Niagara Falls is among the wine worlds crown jewels, and even the most discerning wine connoisseur is likely to go home satisfied. Budget-friendly winery tours are readily available throughout the area, ensuring that you dont need deep pockets to enjoy world-class wine. Furthermore, seasoned beer aficionados will want to check out some of Niagara Falls state-of-the-art microbreweries.

Its not hard to see why scores of eager travelers flock to Niagara Falls each year. In addition to the iconic falls, the area has countless attractions designed to appeal to a variety of age groups. While theres no denying that the falls are the star of the show, visitors will find no shortage of ways to occupy their time after seeing the Niagara Falls up-close. So, the next time you find yourself in Niagara, remember to treat yourself to the experiences discussed above.
