Leicester reportedly leading Arsenal and more in Adam Lallana race
The latest speculation surrounding Liverpool’s Adam Lallana suggests that Leicester City are leading the race for the soon-to-be free agent.
32-year-old attacking midfielder Lallana has endured a hugely-frustrating last couple of years on Merseyside.
Following his most-productive campaign to date for the Reds in the 2016/17 season, during which he racked up 8 goals and 7 assists in the Premier League, a number of injury problems saw Lallana manage just a solitary league start over the course of the ensuing season.
And the English international’s fortunes did not exactly improve much last time out.
An early-season groin problem, coupled with the summer arrivals of the likes of Naby Keita and Xherdan Shaqiri at Anfield, saw Lallana manage just 5 league starts all season.
After again struggling for time on the pitch early this campaign, though, the former Southampton man begun to showcase signs of life before the turn of the year.
Lallana netted a crucial equaliser after being introduced off the bench during Liverpool’s 1-1 draw at Manchester United back in October, before bagging an assist in the Reds’ incredible comeback victory over Arsenal in the League Cup.
As such, he was subsequently rewarded with his first Premier League start of the season early in November, and has since gone on to act as an important squad player for Jurgen Klopp.
This, up until recently, had led to questions surrounding whether or not Lallana could yet carve out an extended future for himself at Anfield.
The veteran’s current deal is of course set to expire this summer.
Recent reports from the likes of the reliable Liverpool Echo and more, though, have confirmed that Lallana is in fact all set for a Liverpool departure.
The talented midfielder does not feature in the plans of Jurgen Klopp beyond this season, and has not been offered a new contract.
As a result, he will depart Merseyside as a free agent this summer.
A host of clubs have unsurprisingly been named as keen suitors of Lallana of late, as, despite the former English international’s age and injury record, he remains a reliable creative presence when fit.
And, as outlined above, an insight into the race for Lallana’s signature has this weekend been provided.
As per a report from the Daily Star, all of Leicester City, Arsenal, West Ham United and Crystal Palace are vying for the 32-year-old’s signature.
As things stand, though, it is the Foxes who lead the race.
Brendan Rodgers actually brought Lallana to Anfield in 2014, during his stint in charge of Liverpool.
The relationship between the pair is therefore thought to give Leicester ‘the edge’ over other suitors, with a reunion at the King Power a strong possibility ahead of next season.
