Louis Saha rates his former Manchester United teammate Michael Carrick’s managerial qualities
Louis Saha saw plenty of qualities in his former Manchester United teammate Michael Carrick that suggested he could go on to become a manager in the future.
Carrick is in caretaker charge of the Red Devils after the sacking of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on Sunday and before they appoint a new manager, either or an interim or permanent basis.
The former England international got his spell in charge off to the perfect start on Tuesday as United beat Villarreal 2-0 in the Champions League, and while he is unlikely to stay in control of the side for long, he will hope to impress for as long as he does.
Saha, who played with Carrick at Old Trafford from from 2006-08, says the former midfielder was always intelligent, analytical and diplomatic, so it is no surprise he is moved into coaching and is dipping his toe in management.
‘Yes, he was always a very smart lad. He was eager to learn and he’s very patient in the way he goes about things,’ Saha told 101greatgoals.com.
‘He doesn’t create any mayhem and hes very diplomatic.
‘He’s perhaps not the most vocal but he’s very analytical and was always analysing everything – you can see he always wanted to learn and on he learned from the very best so he’s a great asset for the club.’
Carrick looks set to be in charge on Sunday when United travel to west London to take on Chelsea in the Premier League, with a new boss very unlikely to arrive before then.
The club want to appoint Maruicio Pochettino, but it may prove impossible, or at least extremely difficult, to get him until the end of the season so an interim may arrive.
