Are Tottenham back to square one in managerial search? All eyes might be on Euro 2020, but Tottenham's managerial search is also serving up plenty of drama.
Insight provided into Callum Hudson-Odoi’s recent lack of minutes for Chelsea
An insight into why Callum Hudson-Odoi has not featured regularly for Chelsea of late has been provided on Tuesday.
When Thomas Tuchel first took the reins at Chelsea, Callum Hudson-Odoi was a regular feature under the German.
Tuchel opted to switch to a back-five formation, which saw Cesar Azpilicueta moved to the right centre-back spot.
This, many likely would have assumed, then seen Reece James moved into the right-wing-back role alongside the Spaniard.
However, somewhat surprisingly, Tuchel actually began to play Hudson-Odoi at RWB.
CHO would feature in all seven of Tuchel’s first seven Premier League games in charge, as well as vs Atletico Madrid in the Champions League and in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup.
The last few months, though, have seen the 20-year-old game time dramatically reduced.
In the league, Hudson-Odoi has only managed 37 minutes of action in Chelsea’s last four ties.
Tuchel also benched the Englishman in the FA Cup semi-final vs Manchester City and in Chelsea’s last four Champions League ties.
So, given his dramatic drop-off in game time, some Chelsea fans may speculate that CHO has fallen out with Tuchel.
However, The Athletic are reporting that nothing bad of note has taken place between the pair, who are said to have a good relationship.
It is added that Hudson-Odoi enjoys Tuchel’s training methods whilst the Chelsea boss is said to value CHO highly.
Instead, it is suggested that Hudson-Odoi’s drop-off in minutes may be impacted due to his inexperience in the wing-back role, with Tuchel instead opting for Azpilicueta and James in more high-profile ties.
The report also points to the amount of competition in a more attacking role as to why we have not seen Hudson-Odoi featuring regular up top in his more natural positions.
At the last international break, Hudson-Odoi had made more apps for #CFC under Tuchel than Mason Mount & stood 8th in the amount of minutes at the club. Over the last 11 matches, only 3 squad members have played less. Why the downturn? I look into it here: https://t.co/Me8j67KDLe
