Hasenhuttl explains where Southampton went wrong in ‘nervy’ defeat
Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl revealed which part of their game hampered their efforts to reach the FA Cup final, admitting they “didn’t have good moments” throughout.
Southampton fell at the penultimate hurdle as Leicester advanced to the FA Cup final via a 1-0 scoreline. Neither side produced their best in the contest as nerves took an early hold.
Southampton failed to register a single shot on target throughout the contest. Leicester fared better to the tune of one effort, though that was enough as Kelechi Iheanacho settle the tie.
Speaking to the BBC after the match, Hasenhuttl said: “We conceded the first goal in the cup.
“Hard to take because we haven’t been the worst team. We tried to put pressure on them. We saw a not very good football game to be honest with both teams a little nervous.
“Such a goal decides such a game is a pity for us. We had a good run and we wanted to get to the final to give our fans the chance of another final.
“In the end especially in the final third we didn’t have good moments. We couldn’t get a shot on goal and this is not enough.
“We had a few good moments where we stretched them a bit. The final ball and the final punch was not there.
