Leeds tipped to make move to bring £18m Sheff Utd man back to Prem

Leeds tipped to make move to bring £18m Sheff Utd man back to Prem

team talk - 1 week ago

Leeds United are reported to be considering an approach to hand Aaron Ramsdale an immediate return to the Premier League.

Ramsdale, 22, has endured a tough season with the Blades. They sit rock bottom of the Premier League standings and have little chance of avoiding the drop. Having taken just 14 points from 30 games, the writing is on the wall for the Blades. They are 15 points adrift of safety with just 24 points left to fight for.

Ramsdale has played every minute of the South Yorkshire outfits 26 league games this term. He has conceded 52 goals, but has largely performed well between the sticks. Indeed, since an £18m move from Bournemouth last summer, he’s been one of their better performers.

As such, it’s no surprise to see Ramsdale find his name linked with a number of suitors. Last month, the England U21 stopper was linked with a move to West Ham.

Now he’s also reportedly emerged as a target for Leeds. The Whites were one of his suitors last summer, but now it appears they are back in for him.

Leeds are reportedly ready to offer Kiko Casilla a free transfer exit and need a new challenger for No 1 Illan Meslier.

And, according to Noel Whelan, Ramsdale is one of the names they are looking at.

Ramsdale could be a possibility theyre looking at,” Whelan told Football Insider.

“There isnt really anyone in that side bar the goalkeeper that youd have a good look at. With that being said, is he going to get ahead of Meslier right now?

Sheffield United are not the same team they were last season. We had opportunities we should have taken but Ramsdale had a good game.

Performance-wise, they arent getting forward and theres a lack of belief. So youd imagine a few of their players will be leaving in the summer.

Ramsdale in Blades pledge

Despite the growing interest in his services, Ramsdale appears settled in South Yorkshire.

As such, he’s insisted his focus will remain at Sheffield United, where he has three years left on his deal.

I cant let things affect me and I cant have ups and downs, he said. As a goalkeeper youll have them throughout a season anyway, so youve got to limit how often that happens and youve got to be reliable.

Ive been out on loan and then I had a year at Bournemouth, so its only been a season and now its time for me to kick on, he added.

Whatever league were in next season, I want to be a part of it and I want to be able to help the team. That starts now, being consistent every week, on and off the pitch.
