Manchester United are keeping tabs on Bayer Leverkusen defender Edmond Tapsoba, according to a report.
Tapsoba has excelled for Leverkusen since joining them in January 2020. He has played in 21 of a possible 23 Bundesliga games this season.
The defender has enjoyed a rapid rise since moving to European football with Leixoes in Portugal in 2017. He then moved to Vitoria Guimaraes before his Bundesliga switch.
Tapsoba has now outlined himself as one of the most promising centre-backs in Germany. If he continues his current form, he will be on the radar of several top clubs willing to give him the next step.
One of those watching him, according to the Daily Express, will be United.
The newspaper claims that United have been advised to scout Tapsoba as he continues his rise to prominence. Hence, they are now watching his development.
United are on the hunt for a new centre-back partner for Harry Maguire. Ideally, they want a left-footed player, but would still consider right-footed options such as Tapsoba.
A number of names have emerged as targets for United, such as Sevilla’s Jules Kounde and Fiorentina’s Nikola Milenkovic. But Tapsoba is now another name on the shortlist.
United are not his only admirers. Liverpool were linked with the Burkina Faso international during the latter stages of the January transfer window.
The champions were scrambling for defensive cover after injuries to Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip and Joe Gomez. Ultimately, they signed Ben Davies and Ozan Kabak.
Tapsoba was another name under consideration in the hours before those moves were confirmed. However, Leverkusen refused to sanction his departure for less than his £44m release clause.
Their stance may change in the summer, but that clause is a sign of how highly he is now valued. It would require a big effort to prise him away.

Prem competition for Tapsoba
Also in the race to sign Tapsoba are Premier League duo Leicester and Wolves. The report claims both clubs have already been scouting him.
Leicester’s interest is long-term, but has faded since they signed Wesley Fofana in the summer.
Wolves, on the other hand, intend to try and sign Tapsoba when the transfer window opens. The 22-year-old is aware of their interest, but was hesitant to move to the Premier League last summer for fears of not getting as much gametime.
His form with Leverkusen has indicated that he has the potential to make an impact in England, though. Therefore, his future may be in the spotlight again after the end of the season.
