A recent report from Spain has credited Manchester United with an interest in Barcelona starlet, Ilaix Moriba.
Who is Ilaix Moriba?
Moriba is just one of countless top talents to make their way through Barcelona’s famed La Masia academy over the years.
Moriba is still primarily plying his trade for Barca B. However, 2020/21 has seen Ronald Koeman hand the central midfielder some first-team action.
The 18-year-old made his senior Barcelona debut towards the end of January, featuring for 74 minutes in the Copa del Rey vs UE Cornellà.
The youngster has since been handed three more outings for La Blaugrana vs Alaves, Sevilla and Sevilla again in the cup. In said ties, the Spaniard has already managed to provide two assists.
Following his first-team debut, Moriba had this to say:
“My first team debut was a dream come true. They told me I was playing the day before and I couldn’t sleep. It’s such a dream after all these years of hard work. All that work was worth it just for those 80 minutes.”
“At La Masia you have choice but to mature. They help and guide you a lot. But a lot of things depend on you – rigour, constancy, work and everything is taught from a young age. Since I was little I have been coming to Camp Nou to watch the team and to now have played in the stadium with these players is just incredible.”
Man United make offer for Moriba
Now, despite his limited experience, Moriba appears to be attracting interest from some top clubs.
As per the aforementioned report from Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, Moriba had already had two firm offers from Manchester United and RB Leipzig.
However, the report from MD does go on to add that Moriba, who has less than 18 months left on his current deal, wants to continue at the Camp Nou.
No fee is mentioned in the above-linked report. But it has previously been claimed that Moriba has a €100m release clause.
