Brighton miss two penalties as refereeing overshadows loss to West Brom
West Brom claimed a vital 1-0 win over Brighton in a game that will be remembered for more refereeing controversy.
West Brom took the lead early on when Kyle Bartley headed home after a corner.
VAR awarded Brighton a penalty shortly after due to an Okay Yokuslu hand-ball. However, Pascal Gross struck his effort from the post against the bar.
Brighton thought they had equalised when Lewis Dunk caught Sam Johnstone out with a free kick. The goalkeeper was still organising his wall, but the whistle had already gone.
It prompted a confusing few minutes, with referee Lee Mason initially awarding the goal, before ruling it out after a VAR check.
