Jamie Carragher identifies problem which caused Callum Hudson-Odoi substitution

Jamie Carragher believes Callum Hudson-Odoi being directly in his managers line of sight may have contributed to him being hauled off against Southampton at the weekend.
Hudson-Odoi was introduced as a second-half substitution against Southampton on Saturday but lasted just 31 minutes before being replaced.
Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel explained after the match: No, it was not injury-related. I was not happy with his attitude, energy and counter-pressing.
Hudson Odois performance was analysed by Jamie Carragher and special guest Gus Poyet during Monday Night Football, highlighting statistics that showed only Timo Werner made more sprints than the England winger during the 31 minutes he was on the pitch.
And Carragher suggested there could be a simpler reason behind Tuchel’s decision to take off the England international.
Tuchel said Hudson-Odoi’s withdrawal was not injury-related (Picture: Getty)
We dont know exactly why he was brought off, we can say it was counter pressing or losing balls or different things, but sometimes a lot of managers see one thing and think, Im going to make a change,’ Carragher said.
The Liverpool legend continued: It may have been a problem that he was right in front of him. that is always a problem. If he was on the left, not the right, I think he would have stayed on.
‘But hes right in view of the manager. I think it was very harsh to bring him off – but it will send a message to Callum Hudson-Odoi if he ever comes off the bench again and it will send a message to everyone else in that dressing room – when you come on as a sub you have got to impact the game.
‘And he obviously felt he did not impact the game enough.
Chelsea take on Atletico Madrid in the first leg of their Champions League last 16 clash tonight.
