Man City, Tottenham reject chance to sign striker now on West Ham’s radar
Manchester City and Tottenham are both reportedly said to have turned down the chance to sign a striker now wanted by West Ham this month.
Their report adds that Premier League rivals Tottenham were also offered the 34-year-old, but that led to a similar outcome.
The Italian giants are seemingly desperate to offload the veteran forward. Indeed, they also offered him to Real Madrid in a swap for Mariano Diaz but were knocked back.
Dzeko still has 18 months left on his deal in the Italian capital, but Roma are said to want his salary off the books.
The prolific attacker has scored eight times in 20 games this season. His overall Roma total stands at an impressive 114 goals in 242 games.
While Dzeko’s potential move back to City may have been seen as a backwards step for the former Premier League champions, it is one that makes some sense.
Pep Guardiola’s men have been without the injury-hit Sergio Aguero for most of the season. While Gabriel Jesus has stepped up the mark, at times, Dzeko would give them another veteran presence.
Aguero has also been tipped to leave City on a free this summer, with Barcelona keen on his signature.
Dzeko scored 72 goals in 189 games for the Etihad outfit between 2011-16, winning two Premier League titles.
As for Tottenham, they are also on the hunt for another striker. That is despite having Carlos Vinicius on loan as Harry Kane insurance.
Jose Mourinho chased a move for the Bosnia forward in December 2019, but the Portuguese now appears to have changed his mind.
That would appear to have cleared the way for the Hammers to make their move.
David Moyes’ men sold record signing Sebastien Haller to Ajax earlier this month and have been on the lookout for a new striker ever since.
Few of those targets have Premier League experience, however, and Dzeko could prove to be a wise signing.
