Man Utd complete signing of highly-touted young centre-back
Defender Jack Kingdon has spoken of his pride after the 15-year-old completed a move from Morecambe to Manchester United.
The centre-back caught the eyes of scouts when featuring for the League Two clubs youth teams. He has been plying his trade for Morecambes Under-18 side but looks set to join Uniteds Under-16s.
The youngster revealed the news on social media and is raring to get going at his new club.
Im very honoured and proud to be a part of this special club Man United, he wrote on Twitter.
Known for his pace at the heart of defence, it will be interesting to watch him develop alongside other youngsters. The Red Devils have made no secret of their desire to invest in youth.
Alvaro Fernandez, Marc Jurado, Joe Hugill, Isak Hansen-Aaroen, Charlie McNeill, Willy Kambwala and Alejandro Garnacho joined in the summer. They will feature for teams between Under-16 and Under-23 level.
England youth international goalkeeper Tom Wooster also signed for the club from Barnsley this week.
While United continue to sign young players, Jadon Sancho is one they missed out on over the summer. The Old Trafford giants targeted the England man in the off-season but could not prise him away from Borussia Dortmund.
It seems as though they were nowhere near the Bundesliga clubs valuation of the starlet. BVB wanted £108million but received no bid, with rumours that the Premier League club felt they would reduce that price.
The brinkmanship did not work and it appears as though the situation has affected the youngster. He has started six Germany top-flight games but has yet to score, having bagged 17 in the league last term.
He was on the bench last weekend although he did score in Dortmunds 3-0 Champions League win over Club Brugge.
Sancho admits it has been a tough situation but was happy to contribute in Europe.
I am just happy that I am playing. I have coaches and team-mates that believe in me, he said. Recently, its been a hard situation for me.
But its all about how I come back and have performances like this. They will hopefully get me back to the top, how I was playing before.
It remains to be seen if the Londoner does end up at United. It seems as though he is wanted but finances, as ever, will dictate proceedings.
