Donny van de Beek has today opened up on his plans to ‘fight for everything’ whilst donning the colours of Manchester United.
All-action midfielder van de Beek of course represents the sole major arrival at Old Trafford to this point in the summer.
Despite links to some of Europe’s premier players (primarily Jadon Sancho), the Red Devils have largely flattered to deceive on the transfer front, with the 2020/21 campaign now of course in full swing.
As such, it no doubt came as a welcome surprise when, almost out of the blue, speculation began to ramp up late last month that United were on the verge of closing a deal for Ajax star van de Beek.
The 23-year-old, fresh off the back of another superb campaign at The Johan Cruyff Arena, was evidently identified as the missing piece in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s swiftly-improving midfield puzzle.
Ed Woodward and co. therefore wasted little time in pushing a transfer over the line, with van de Beek’s move to Manchester having been made official 3 weeks ago::
‘Want more and more’
The now-former Ajax man has since gone on to endure a somewhat mixed start to life in Manchester.
Van de Beek managed to find the net on his Red Devils debut, albeit in a hugely disappointing 3-1 defeat at the hands of Crystal Palace.
This was followed by a solid if unspectacular performance on the Dutchman’s part, as United downed Luton Town earlier this week to book their spot in the 4th round of the League Cup.
Nevertheless, as outlined above, whilst Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men are yet to showcase the kind of form which saw them stand out as one of English football’s finest sides over the 2nd half of last season, van de Beek fully expects to fight for silverware on a consistent basis at Old Trafford over the years to come.
Speaking in an interview published by United Review earlier today, the Dutchman first revealed the opinion that he has made a ‘good step’ in his career, in departing Ajax for United.
This was followed by the assurance that he is ready to ‘fight for everything’ with his new club, with van de Beek eager to add to his medal collection:
‘I always trust in myself and for sure you can always improve and be better and I will always work hard to make those steps and still now I will continue to do that.’
‘I have made a good step from Ajax to United and now I want more and more and I want to help the club win prizes. We will fight for everything.’
