Man United switch attentions to Alex Telles amid claims of contract agreement
Speculation stemming from the European media this evening suggests that Premier League giants Manchester United are eyeing up the signature of Porto star Alex Telles.
Recent weeks have seen reports rampant that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and co. are eyeing up reinforcements at left-back.
Though the area did not prove of particular concern last season, if the plan at Old Trafford is to continue utilising Luke Shaw in a more central role this season, then Brandon Williams represents United’s only real left-back option.
Williams, whilst unquestionably talented, just turned 20 years of age, and cannot yet be trusted with an undisputed starting berth week-in, week-out.
As such, the Red Devils’ search for fresh options on the left-hand side of the club’s backline does make sense.
To this point, the stopper most persistently linked with filling this role had been Real Madrid’s Sergio Reguilon.
As has become widespread knowledge over recent days, though, the Spanish international is now on the verge of a move to Premier League rivals Tottenham.
As such, United have been forced to turn their attentions elsewhere.
And, as outlined above, one such target now appears to have been identified.
The player in question? Porto’s Alex Telles.
News regarding the Reds’ interest in once-capped Brazilian international Telles was first pushed by Mohamed Bouhafsi of French outlet RMC Sport a short time ago.
Not only did Bouhafsi highlight United’s keenness, though, the reporter went as far as to outright claim that the terms of a 5-year contract between club and player have already been agreed:
🔴🔴 Alex Telles has agreed a 5-year contract with Manchester United – Premier League club will now seek to agree a fee with FC Porto. PSG are also there, still thinking about whether or not to make a concrete move.

David Ornstein of The Athletic, meanwhile, has since also weighed in on the subject of the Manchester giants stepping up their pursuit of Telles.
The transfer expert, though, whilst backing claims of United’s interest, was quick to shoot down the suggestion that any form of agreement has been reached:
Manchester United have held conversations over Porto left-back Alex Telles, as per @mohamedbouhafsi. Club sources say no agreement in place with #FCPorto or the 27-year-old Brazil international but #MUFC are continuing to monitor the situation @TheAthleticUK
