Kyle Walker believes Man City have improved & matured since Lyon defeat
Manchester City booked their place in the Champions League quarter-finals earlier this week.
The Sky Blues faced Champions League experts Real Madrid in the last 16.
But after two staring displays from the likes of Gabriel Jesus and Kevin De Bruyne, Pep Guardiola and co. emerged from two gruelling legs with a 4-2 victory over Los Blancos.
Man City are now set to face off with French outfit Lyon for a place in the semi-finals.
Lyon would lose 2-1 to Juventus earlier this week, but their 1-0 victory over the Italians back in February meant they were able to advance on away goals.
With the likes of FC Barcelona, Bayern Munich and PSG still in the competition, many may believe Lyon are one of the easier sides to draw at this stage.
However, Man City are well aware of what a tough test the Ligue 1 side can be.
City and Lyon were drawn in the same Champions League group for the 2018/19 campaign.
And though City did advance from their group, they were unable to pick up a victory over Lyon – losing 2-1 at the Etihad and drawing 2-2 in France.
One player who is well aware of the threat Lyon can pose is Kyle Walker, with the defender recently voicing the opinion that the tie will be very tough:
It’s going to be very tough. Last year in this competition, they beat us at our ground.
It’s going to be special at just one game. Anything can happen. You have to be assured at the back and be determined in front of the goal.
It’s the fine details when it’s knock-out games and small tournaments like this one.
However, the full-back also believes the Citizens have improved and matured a lot since their loss to Lyon in 2018:
I think as a team we have improved and matured a lot since Lyon beat us.
We have to make sure we are fully concentrated, follow the tactics, listen to the manager. Also, show the willingness we showed against Real to put in the extra miles.
