Arsenal end season on high note as Aubameyang brace clinches FA Cup
Arsenal won their 14th FA Cup by beating Chelsea 2-1 to give Mikel Arteta his first trophy as a manager.
It has been a season of mixed emotions for Arsenal, who have recorded their lowest Premier League finish in 25 years. However, Arteta has restored a sense of belief since taking over as head coach – and ensured the season ends on a high note by leading them to silverware.
The FA Cup final did not start on the best of notes for Arsenal, as Christian Pulisic scored to give Chelsea the lead inside five minutes.
However, Arsenal were able to strike back via a Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang penalty, after Cesar Azpilicueta pulled back the Gunners captain.
And Aubameyang scored again with a great finish to give Chelsea the lead midway through the second half. It was a lead they kept hold of.
Things got worse for Chelsea, who had already lost Azpilicueta and Pulisic to hamstring injuries, when Mateo Kovacic was sent off for a second yellow card.
And deep in stoppage time, substitute Pedro, playing his last game for the club, had to be given oxygen after suffering a shoulder injury. The Roma-bound forward was taken off on a stretcher.
The win for Arsenal means the Gunners will qualify for the Europa League, despite missing out via the league route.
