Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang tips Bukayo Saka for ‘the top’/Explains Arsenal youngster’s ‘little chilli’ nickname
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has opened up on the talents of teammate Bukayo Saka, as well as providing an insight into his personal nickname for the Arsenal youngster.
Teenage sensation Saka has proven one of the few bright spots in a largely disappointing campaign for Arsenal.
After featuring very briefly under Unai Emery last season, the English youth international has since gone on to establish himself as one of the north Londoners’ key men this time around.
This comes despite Saka not being due to turn 19 until September.
The gifted starlet possesses a whole host of talents, combining pace, touch, a sumptuous left foot, the ability to beat his man in one-on-one situations and, crucially, finished product.
This is evidenced by his haul of 4 goals and a club-leading 11 assists across all competitions to this point in the campaign.
Perhaps most impressive of all, though, is Saka’s versatility.
Despite being a winger by trade, the Gunners youth product has lined out to great effect in a whole host of positions under the combination of Unai Emery and Mikel Arteta, including left-back, on the right flank, and in the middle of the park.
As such, it has come as little surprise to see many tip Saka for the very top of the game.
And, as outlined above, one individual who is certainly of the opinion that the starlet possesses all of the required traits to establish himself as a genuine star is Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
Speaking in an interview with Sky Sports this weekend, the Arsenal captain was drawn on the talents of his young teammate, with Aubameyang having highlighted Saka’s superb mentality as the key ingredient behind his early-career success:
‘Oh for sure, he is one of the best, for sure.’
‘What I like about him is he is always listening to advice from us the experienced players.’
‘I really like it and he is really humble, he always wants to go forwards and learn more and try to improve his game so definitely he is one of the best.’
‘Of course, I think hes 18 so he has a lot of time, but as I said to him the most important thing is to enjoy, because at this age to be at this club is really special and he just has to continue like this, to keep improving and I am sure he will go straight to the top.’
Aubameyang also went on to discuss his rather unusual nickname for Saka, with the Gunners hitman having long referred to his teammate as ‘Petit Piment’:
‘I call him this [Little Chilli] but in French so it is ‘Petit Piment’. Its because he is like a little chilli, so much energy, so much power and is quite small so its funny.’
