Boris Johnson has insisted he is in good spirits as he continues to battle coronavirus from hospital (Picture: PA)

Boris Johnson has tweeted from his hospital bed to reassure the nation he is in good health after testing positive for coronavirus.

He said: ‘ Last night, on the advice of my doctor, I went into hospital for some routine tests as Im still experiencing coronavirus symptoms. Im in good spirits and keeping in touch with my team, as we work together to fight this virus and keep everyone safe.’

He added: ‘Id like to say thank you to all the brilliant NHS staff taking care of me and others in this difficult time. You are the best of Britain. Stay safe everyone, and please remember to stay at home to protect the NHS and save lives.’

It comes after his official spokesman said he spent a ‘comfortable night’ in St Thomas’ Hospital, London.

The PM was admitted yesterday after his Covid-19 symptoms lasted more than seven days.

Mr Johnson still has a persistent cough and a temperature as he battles coronavirus. He remains in hospital under observation, Downing Street said.

Mr Johnsons official spokesman said he continued to lead the Government and had been working on official papers from his bed.
