Hooded man tries to abduct boy metres from where Line of Duty star’s son chased
A hooded man attempted to abduct a child just 500 metres from where another failed child-snatching took place on the same afternoon in London.
A schoolboy was told to go with a man, who was wearing a face covering, as he played in a wooded area of Kelsey Park, Beckenham, at 4.30pm last Friday.
The boy ran away immediately but the man followed him for a short time until the child called one of his friends and the man ran away, Clare House Primary School headteacher Mrs Jane Holland wrote in a letter to parents seen by the Evening Standard.
The man was later seen driving past in a black van wearing black with a hood up and a mask on.
It comes after the Metropolitan Police warned two men tried to abduct a boy, 11, as he walked home from school in Whitmore Road in Beckenham on Friday.
The pair pulled up in a small black van and asked if he wanted a lift. They chased him into a park, but fled when the boy told two other men he was being followed.
Line of Duty actress Sherise Blackman warned her son was targeted in south-east London on Friday.
Ms Blackman, who played Ruby Jones in the hit BBC series, said she was very dissatisfied’ in the way police took a statement from her son.
She told the Evening Standard: They were asking questions like have you got any issues with other boys? and do you have beef with other kids?.
I could see where they were going with this and I was like “no, it wasnt that”. My son is a very smart little boy he sensed danger. But they were trying to fob it off.
The Met has since apologised, describing their initial response as non sufficient.
Superintendent Andy Brittain, from the South Area BCU, said: ‘I fully acknowledge our initial response was not sufficient given the extremely worrying circumstances of this incident.
‘The matter was reviewed and detectives are carrying out further investigation which remains ongoing.
‘I want to reassure the boys parents and the wider community that this incident is being fully investigated to establish the full circumstances of what happened.
No arrests have been made in relation to either incident and police are appealing to the public for information.
