Where will Prince Philip be buried, will he have a state funeral and where are other royals buried? The Duke of Edinburgh may have a low-key ceremony.
Dad ‘blacked out’ and woke up one month later in hospital after plunging off cliff
A dad broke 14 bones in his body after he ‘blacked out’ and fell off a cliff while climbing in the Peak District.
Imran Choudhury, 36, had been training to climb Kilimanjaro to raise funds for the NHS, when he suddenly lost consciousness on February 23. He then woke up one month later in a hospital bed, with no idea what had happened.
He had reached the Trinnacle, a large gritstone stack located above Greenfield Reservoir, earlier that day, and had stopped to pose for photos. The strangers who took his pictures then came to his aid after he plunged down the hillside.
It took a team of 18 mountain rescuers more than two hours to pull his body to a position where a Yorkshire air ambulance crew could safely transport him to Sheffields Northern General Hospital.
Mr Choudhury, who until recently ran the Pink Pearl curry house in Newton le Willows, told the ECHO: ‘While I was climbing down I just blacked out. When I woke up it was a month later and I was in an intensive care unit. I had damaged everything in my body apart from my left arm.’
His injuries included broken bones in both legs, his right shoulder blade, spine and skull, and he also suffered a bleed on the brain.
He has since been released from hospital two months after his fall, and has already defied predictions by beginning to walk again with the help of a frame.
Mr Choudhury said it was a miracle he survived the fall, although he is still in pain and accepts he has a long way to go.
He said: ‘I was discharged after two months because I was doing so well and I think I am doing well because of my determination and the mental and emotional support from my family and the community. I think that has helped me get to where I am now.’
Mr Choudhury is now raising money for the staff at the Northern General Hospital. Donations can be made through his Just Giving page.
