Girl with IQ just below Einstein's joins Mensa after learning alphabet at 14 months

A girl, four, has become one of Mensa’s youngest members after she passed the admissions test at the age of three.

Dayaal Singh learned the alphabet at 14 months old, and began counting to 20 before she was 16 months old. She scored an IQ of 145 on the Mensa test, which is just below Albert Einstein’s score of 160.

Her dad Sarb Singh, 39, a health and wellbeing pastoral leader, said he and wife Raj, 32, first noticed Dayaal was special when she began stringing sentences together at 16 months.

He went on: ‘She wouldn’t just say one word she would put a few together. She was a blast to be around. She would talk to people in shops and ask about their day.’

Mr Singh continued: ‘I knew she was an exceptional child. I am biased, but it was crazy how quickly she was able to learn the alphabet and read. I could have a proper conversation with her when she was only two – it was incredible.

‘Her social skills and sense of humour are as breathtaking as her intelligence and IQ. I am privileged to be her dad.’

Dayaal’s parents say she now gets along better with young teenagers and enjoys learning about space, meaning they sometimes have to Google the answers to her questions.

But they had to push for their daughter’s abilities to be recognised, and are keen for her to be moved up a year at school.

Mr Singh said: ‘The psychologist who assessed Dayaal recommended moving her a year ahead, which she said she rarely does.

‘It does not seem likely it will be able to happen and I am worried Dayaal will become very frustrated because she is way ahead of other children in her year.

‘Rightly so, there is a lot of support for special educational needs but there should be the same support for children like Dayaal who is at the other end of the spectrum.

‘She shouldn’t be squeezed into a conventional educational system when she is progressing at such a rapid pace. Already, if she is not challenged enough, she will get frustrated.’
