Coronavirus news live: London’s tier 2 lockdown starts today as daily infections hit record high in 22 European countries
London is among the eight regions that has moved into a tier two lockdown today, which sees a ban on households mixing indoors.
Joining London in the move to tier two are Barrow-in-Furness, Elmbridge, York, north-east Derbyshire, Erewash and Chesterfield.
The Prime Minister’s negotiations with Manchester over the city’s tier 3 lockdown, and has said he ‘will intervene’ if they cannot reach an agreement.
These countries include France, Greece, and Italy.
The news comes as 136 people died with coronavirus and a further 15,650 positive tests were reported in the UK yesterday.
This brings the UKs death toll to 43,429, and the total number of cases to 689,257.
